During the seventies ambulatory heart sport clubs, then labeled as, "coronary clubs" became very popular in Europe especially in West-Germany. Around 2000 there were more than 6000 heart sports groups in Germany. In 1984 a first group was founded in Luxembourg City (Centre) a, 1991 a second group started in Esch/Alzette (South) and in 2002 a third regional group in Ettelbruck (North) so that, by now, the 3 main public health districts of the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg can offer regular ambulatory sports activities to almost all concerned cardiac patients in the country.
Both PImax and PEmax were significantly correlated with LEAN (r = 0.656, r = 0.591, p < 0.01, respectively) in patients with COPD. These results show that respiratory muscle strength is closely associated with body weight and lean body mass in patients with COPD. The present approach to compare respiratory muscle strength with lean body mass should be useful for studying the mechanism of respiratory muscle weakness in patients with COPD..
Herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) protein ICP27 facilitates the export of viral intronless mRNAs. ICP27 shuttles between the nucleus and cytoplasm, which has been shown to require a leucine-rich nuclear export sequence (NES). ICP27 export was reported to be sensitive to the CRM1 inhibitor leptomycin B (LMB) in HSV-1-infected cells but not in Xenopus oocytes, where ICP27 interacts with the export factor Aly/REF to access the TAP export pathway.
This article reviews the historical development and scientific underpinnings of modern resuscitation techniques. We summarized data from a number of studies to illustrate the differential effects of commonly used resuscitation fluids, including isotonic crystalloids, natural and artificial colloids, hypertonic and hyperoncotic solutions, and artificial oxygen carriers, on cellular injury and how these relate to clinical practice. The data reveal that a uniformly safe, effective, and practical resuscitation fluid when blood products are unavailable and direct hemorrhage control is delayed has been elusive.
The asymmetric unit is predicted to contain two protein molecules and 43% solvent. A 1.75-A native data set was recorded at beamline 8.3.1 of the Advanced Light Source. To our knowledge, this is the first report of high-resolution crystals of any F.
Treatment with a nanoparticle dose of 1 μM paclitaxel/10 μM lonidamine resulted in less than 10% cell viability for all hypoxic/MDR cell lines and less than 5% cell viability for all normoxic cell lines. Comparatively, treatment with 1 μM paclitaxel alone was the approximate IC₅₀ value of the MDR cells while treatment with lonidamine alone had very little effect. The PLGA/PEG/EGFR-peptide delivery system actively targets a MDR cell by exploiting the expression of EGFR.
